2/16 I'd like to announce that the Black Randy and the Metrosquad 2xLP is finally ready to ship and available to purchase. For those of you not familiar with Black randy you're really missing out. He was one of the flagship Dangerhouse bands from the late 70s LA punk scene. It's hard to say he was playing punk because his music was well beyond that. It's dirty, it's soulful, it's rock n' roll, it's a bit funky and 100% black. I've repressed the original "pass the dust I think I'm bowie" LP and added in both dangerhouse singles, some demos, some live material and one of Black randy's timeless phone calls to create a deluxe double LP. There's also several never before seen photos and updated liners by Pat Garrett (as well as the original liners). There has been no skimping or cutting corners on this release. It came out absolutely beautiful. Copies are available for $20 + s/h (that's $24 for all of you in the US). As always you can paypal me at zedstardust@hotmail.com. 05/17 I am pleased to announce the latest addition the Vinyl Countdown family of reissues. A deluxe reissue of the classic LA punk album, "Pass the dust I think I'm bowie" by Black Randy and the Metrosquad. This will be a double LP housed in a gatefold sleeve. The first album will be a replica of the original album. The second will be outtakes, demos, live recordings and some of black randy's wonderful prank calls. The gatefold will feature never before seen photos as well as liner notes. The original sleeve will be presented as it originally was as well. I cannot begin to explain how excited I am to have a chance to work on this record. More details as I get them. The Wind record is almost complete. The records are on their way to me now and the sleeves are almost complete as well. I will begin taking orders on June 1st. If I get everything before then I will have them for sale on the website. I am also on schedule to have the Hector 2x45 out as well as the Sgt. Arms LP. So keep checking back for more updates! 04/22 The past month has been crazy here at Vinyl Countdown. The Wind, "Where it's at with the wind" reissue is being pressed as I type this. The expected release date is 6/01/2008 but I suspect it will be here earlier than that. I will start taking preorders and wholesale orders in the next few weeks. I also wanted to announce that I have contacted the great UK Glam band, Hector. They have agreed to let me do a reissue of their 2 singles. Right now I am planning to do a 2x45 gatefold repress of this material. These details are really early but I am expecting a release date of September. Sgt. Arms is what I'm starting right now. I have been in contact with Bill Lloyd and we are sealing up the deal. Again, this is an entire album of really great lost powerpop songs. Every song on this is as good as the "Caught in traffic/Walkin on the roof" single. It's looking like it will be about 14 songs. This release should see the light of day in early August if all goes according to plan. There are a few more things in the works. One of them is particularly exciting and huge but it will be a few weeks before I can announce it. Trust me though, it will be worth the wait! I'm aiming to have 5 or 6 releases out total for 2008 and so far we're on track. 03/30 Up next is a reissue of the Wind's 1982 debut album, "Where it's at with the wind." This should be out by June 1st and will come out in a nice gatefold sleeve with liner notes by Lane Steinberg himself. Following that should be the release of an album by Bill Lloyd's Sgt. Arms. More details soon! 07/25 I'm also now taking orders for the new Foxx cd, "Lila." Cost is $10 including shipping and it's their best work to date. Recorded and produced by Greg Ashley this is truly one of the only modern glam gems out there. With any luck I'll be able to announce another release by a great powerpop band in the upcoming weeks. Until then... 06/12 The Foxx's latest effort, "Lila", will be out on cd in July. It was recorded in November of 2006 by Greg Ashley (Gris Gris, Mirrors). The cd release will be held on August 3rd at the Launchpad in Albuquerque, NM. Puddin' Tang will be in town to play as well which makes the possibility of a Rondelles set very, very possible. Look for the Foxx on tour in October up and down the West coast. Other upcoming releases are being planned right now. There will be stuff to satisfy powerpop and punk collectors alike. Keep checkin' this space for more details! 03/18 Marbles LP out now! $14.00 (includes shipping within the US...outside of the US will be more) 02/07 After many delays the Marbles LP is finally being pressed. I should have it available in the next two weeks or so. I will start taking preorders very shortly as this is a limited release of 500 copies. In other news, the Foxx has finished recording their second full length with the genius behind the Gris Gris, Greg Ashley. We're still shopping this around but it may see the light of day on Vinyl Countdown as well. It's like nothing else we've ever done and it can be checked out on our myspace page at http://www.myspace.com/thefoxx The next Vinyl Countdown release is being negotiated right now. More details to come in the next month or two! 03/14 I'm proud to announce the next release on the Vinyl Countdown record label. This one has never received an official release in any form and it's a true tragedy. The band is the Marbles. They were a punk/powerpop band from the late 70s new york punk scene. The only existing material available by them is 2 45s that were released back then and are now collectors items and fetch a fairly high dollar on ebay. They will be on this album along with 6 or 7 other songs. It will be a vinyl only release and limited to 500 copies. We're now in the preliminary stages of getting this put out so I would expect to see it by the end of Spring hopefully. In other news, the Foxx is writing new material and will be headnig into the
studio in the next few months to record a second full length album. This will
feature all new songs. Isaac has left the band but we continue to write material
and are stronger than ever right now. Next up in our lineup is a reissue of an old 45 by Caspar Giles McCloud. He's
one of my personal favorites and I looked long and hard to find a copy of this
record. Now I'm making it available for the entire world to hear. I spoke to Caspar
personally about this recording and he gave me a few details on the record. It
was recorded at Strawberry Studios with members of 10CC backing Caspar. That statement
alone should show you the quality of this record. It will be reissued in its original
packaging and the audio quality will be identical to the original. In other news Jealous Gods are in the studio working on their debut recording. Right now we're hoping to get a seven inch out of the recording session but with any luck we may even have a full length to offer you folks. Keep checking back for more details. This will be VCR-004. All releases after that are currently up in the air but I will say that I discovered a few interesting acts on my journeys with the Foxx and I'm going to do my best to get them straight into your ears as soon as possible. More on that next update!Until then..... -Zac back to top |
